Memorial Day Safety
With Memorial Day a little more than a week away, it is the perfect time to start making plans for the holiday weekend. While you are figuring out exactly how you are going to spend the weekend, it is also important to make sure that you know how to stay safe. Keep these Memorial Day safety tips in mind to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe holiday.
- Buckle up – anytime that you get in the car, whether it is to drive down the street to a neighbors or across the state for a road trip, put on your seatbelt. Not only will you avoid a ticket, but it will also help to make sure that you stay safe in case of an accident.
- Do not drink and drive – many people celebrate the holiday with a backyard BBQ, which may involve a couple of cocktails. If you are planning on having any drinks, make sure that you have a sober ride home, or can stay wherever you are.
- Put on your life jacket – if you are going to spend the weekend on the lake, make sure that you have a properly fitting life jacket nearby. Children should always wear their life jacket while on the water, no matter if they are on the shore or on the dock.
- Do not leave your children unattended – make sure that you always know where your child is, especially if you are around water. Also, make sure that you never leave your child in a car unattended, since the late spring temperatures can get very hot.
