Reduce your carbon footprint in honor of Earth Day with these home tips!
Conservation efforts, renewable energy sources, and recycling are just a few of the environmentally responsible practices that are becoming ever more prevalent in everyday life. Join in on the efforts to reduce your carbon footprint in honor of Earth Day. Check out these environmentally-friendly home tips.
Buy Locally.
Stock your kitchen with local produce. Not only does this help to boost your local economy, but it helps to reduce your carbon footprint. When you buy goods and produce from far away, youâ're also consuming the fuel it takes for these products to cross continents. When youâ're a local consumer, youâ're able to buy things that were made just a few miles away.
Heat & Cool Wisely.
Controlling the temperature in your home uses lots of energy. Be sure to use a programmable thermostat so that you only heat and cool your home when youâ're present. Turn off the thermostat when you leave the house. Additionally, be sure to inspect your insulation. When your insulation is old and dingy, air can escape. When itâ's harder to heat and cool your home, it ultimately uses more energy. Be sure to replace your insulation every so often to reduce your energy consumption.
Switch Out You Light Bulbs
When it comes to your home lighting, you use lots of energy. Switch out your bulbs for more energy-efficient models. Try compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs to help reduce your energy consumption. Additionally, save even more energy by turning off the lights when you donâ't need them. Donâ't leave them on in the middle of the day, and turn them off if you leave a room.
