When your “baby†girl or boy turns sweet 16, its time for you to step aside and let them behind the wheel of a car. While this may raise their excitement, it probably also raises your stress. This is especially true when it comes to insurance. Your premium rate will be affected by their every move! Here are some things to keep in mind as your child climbs into the driverâ's seat for the first time:
- As young drivers, they donâ't have a great deal of experience when it comes to testing the laws of the road. If your child gets a speeding ticket, they can get 2 points added to their license, and your coverage costs will increase! Encourage your kid to slow down, and obey all traffic laws.
- Have a serious talk with your child about wearing their seatbelt. Not only can they get a ticket for being caught without it on, but also their injuries could be much worse if they get into an accident. This type of violation will add 2 points to their license.
- Make sure your children understand the seriousness of distracted driving. Whether they are texting or calling behind the wheel, they are risking a ticket, fine, and danger to themselves or others. Encourage them to stay alert at all times!
- If your child does get into an automobile accident, points will only be added to their license if it was their fault.
- One of the biggest driving distractions for new drivers is a friend in the passenger seat. Encourage them to cease horseplay when they are on the road.
- Keep your child motivated to get good grades. Doing so will qualify you for a good student discount with your insurance company!
